This is a crucial development within the IOTA ecosystem and would ensure greater participation in the shimmer Network. As we know, the Shimmer Network is a Layer-1 staging network for the IOTA blockchain specifically designed to boost innovation in the IOTA ecosystem.

It serves as a test layer for developers to build new decentralized applications (dApps) before introducing them to the IOTA mainnet. Besides, the Shimmer Network offers support for NFTs, native tokens, as well as smart contracts. The native cryptocurrency of the Shimmer Network is $SMR.

ShimmerEVM and IOTA 2.0

The major developments scheduled this year within the IOTA ecosystem involve the launch of ShimmerEVM and IOTA 2.0. ShimmerNet’s lead contributor Dominik Schiener recently stated that ShimmerEVM is almost production ready and that his team is testing several UX improvements.

As per the current plans, the ShimmerEVM will come with multi-node support which makes it work very smoothly. Also, with the launch of ShimmerEVM testnet, developers will be able to deploy decentralized applications thereby boosting community participation. As per the current status, the launch of ShimmerEVM shall happen in the first quarter of 2023.

Over the last week, developers have been testing the GoShimmer testnet which is working absolutely flawlessly. Developers are making the GoShimmer network robust and resilient against extreme scenarios.

After the launch of ShimmerEVM, the IOTA will focus on the launch of the much-awaited IOTA 2.0. The second iteration of the IOTA network has been in the works for three years now. However, things seem to be coming on track once again. The IOTA 2.0 will come with a feeless architecture and would process several thousand transactions within seconds. IOTA 2.0 will ensure that the transfer of data and value between humans and machines remains secure.
